Abstract
Background: In the contemporary healthcare landscape, stress among nurses is increasingly recognized as a significant factor contributing to decreased mental health and job performance. Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a novel intervention aimed at alleviating stress and promoting mental well-being. This systematic review evaluates the efficacy of VR in reducing stress among nursing professionals and explores its potential as a mental health support tool.
Aim: The primary objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of VR interventions in managing stress and enhancing the mental health of nurses, providing a comprehensive overview of existing literature.
Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted, analyzing studies that investigated the application of VR for stress reduction among nurses. Databases such as PubMed, PsycINFO, and Scopus were searched for relevant articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Studies were included based on predefined criteria focusing on VR interventions aimed at stress management.
Results: The findings reveal that VR interventions are generally effective in reducing stress levels among nursing professionals. Various studies highlighted significant reductions in perceived stress and anxiety, improved mood, and enhanced coping strategies among participants exposed to VR environments. The immersive nature of VR allowed for controlled stress exposure, enabling nurses to practice stress management techniques in a safe and supportive setting.
Conclusion: VR technology demonstrates considerable promise as a viable tool for stress reduction and mental health support in nursing. Its application can lead to enhanced well-being among nurses, ultimately contributing to better patient care and workplace morale. Further research is necessary to explore the long-term impacts of VR interventions, optimal exposure durations, and the integration of VR into routine nursing practice.
