Abstract

The present work reports the degradation of p-Nitrophenol using pure and various concentration of BiVO4/Ni hybrid material synthesized by the precipitation method. The structural and morphological studies were performed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electronic microscopy coupled to energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Through the calculation of the Kubelka–Munk function applied to diffuse reflectance spectrophotometry data, the hybrid material presented absorption edge of 2.5 to 2.87 eV. UV–Vis spectrophotometry experiments were performed in order to monitor the degradation of p-nitrophenol and the formation of secondary products. The application of pure and BiVO4/Ni-based photo catalyzer led to a decrease in total organic carbon after the degradation of p-Nitrophenol. Based on the results obtained in the study, pure and BiVO4/Ni (3%, 5% and 7%) has proved to be a promising material suitable for the removal of recalcitrant compounds in water treatment plants.
