Sustainable N, S co-doped Carbon Dots-Based Fluorescent Probe for the Selective Determination of Anti-Covid-19 Nitazoxanide in its Tablet Dosage Form and the Synthetic Industrial Wastewater Samples.

Abstract

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous medications were developed to tackle the virus, leading to their unintentional introduction into aquatic ecosystems. Nitazoxanide (NIT) was among the pharmaceuticals involved. Driven by the current situation, highly fluorescent sulfur and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots (N, S-CDs) were used as a fluorescent probe for NIT analysis in synthetic industrial wastewater and tablet dosage form. The three carefully selected precursors (biogenic creatinine, thiourea, and disodium edetate ) were co-carbonized to give high QY N, S-CDs (60.5 % ± 2.09%, n= 5) and characterized using different techniques. The resulted N, S-CDs fluorescence intensity (FI) was quenched by NIT within a linear concentration range of 1.63 –19.53 µM with high mean % recovery of 99.52% ±1.51 and a detection limit of 0.39 µM. This developed environmentally friendly and sustainable platform was employed successfully for NIT detection in synthetic industrial wastewater and tablet dosage form.
