Recent Advances in 2(3H)-Furanone Chemistry and Its Hydrazide Derivative: Synthesis and Reactions

Abstract

The 2(3H)-furanones and their hydrazide derivatives have a wide spectrum of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, antiviral, anticonvulsant, and anticancer properties. They are an important starting material for synthesis of numerous pyrrolone, pyridazinone, and imidazole derivatives. For these reasons, together with our interest in furanone chemistry, we decided to conduct a systematic study of contemporary synthesis and reactions from 2019 to 2023, with a special emphasis on the 3-arylidene-2(3H)-furanones. New furanones and hydrazides can be synthesized and utilized to obtain other heterocyclic compounds to identify their biological applications.
