Utilization of Polyacrylonitrile Waste Fibers in Metal-Organic Framework Matrix for Forming Bioactive Composites Film

Abstract

Copper based metal–organic frameworks (Cu-BTC MOFs)/ polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite films were fabricated by embedding the MOF crystals in soluble polyacrylonitrile (PAN) at different Cu-BTC MOF loadings of 5-40 mass %. The obtained film is highly porous and acts as a house for hosting the bioactive MOF. These Cu-BTC/PAN composite films were then evaluated for antimicrobial application. Data presented herein show that the PAN does not notably interfere with the different stain of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa where the the antimicrobial activity is linearly increase with the increase in Cu-BTC MOF loadings.
