AN EFFICIENT method for the synthesis of new 1,2,3-triazol-4-yl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-amines (4a-c) from phenyliso-thiocyanate and 1,2,3-triazolyl-4-hydrazides (3a-c) through cyclo-desulfurization in the presence of sodium acetate is reported. Also, cyclization of 3a-c with concentrated H2SO4 afforded the corresponding triazol-4-ylthiadiazoles )6a-c(. The new products were screened for their antimicrobial activities, and compounds; 4a-c showed excellent antimicrobial activities compared with the reference drugs. Also, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against the tested organisms was determined in which, compounds 2c and 4a showed the lowest MIC.

THE GLYCOLYSIS of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) was …… studied using several ionic liquids as catalysts. The Lewis base ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate [Bmim][OAc], exhibits higher catalytic activity for the glycolysis of PET, compared with 1-butyl-3 methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim]Cl) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([Bmim]Br). The results revealed that the [Bmim][OAc] has a PET conversion of 75.1% and bis (2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) yield of 46.4% under the conditions of 1.0 g of [Bmim] [OAc] with 20 g of ethylene glycol in the presence of 2.0 g of PET at 180ºC after 2 hr of glycolysis. The main glycolysis product (BHET) was analyzed using XRD, NMR, EI-MS, FTIR, TGA and DSC.

Synthesis of Novel Derivatives Bearing Heterocycles-Tetrahydronaphthalene Conjugates for Antimicrobial and Antiviral Evaluation

THE KEY compound 2-cyano-N'-(2,3-dihydronaphthalen-4(1H)- …..ylidene) acetohydrazide (1) was allowed to react with different aryl diazonium salts and different aldehydes to give the corresponding hydrazone (2a-d) and arylidene derivatives (3a-d). The arylidene derivatives (3a-d) were cyclized with malononitrile, ethylcyanoacetate and/or hydrazine hydrate to give the corresponding derivatives (4, 5 and 6). Moreover, compound 1 was condensed with different substituted isothiocyanates in the presence of chloroacetone, phenacyl bromide and/or ethylbromoacetate to give the thiazole derivatives (8-10). Compound 10 was coupled with various aryl diazonium salts to get the corresponding 4-oxothiazolidine compounds (11a,b). Furthermore, compound 1 was treated with carbon disulfide in the presence of hydrochloric acid, ethylbromoacetate and dimethyl sulfate to give the mercapto derivatives (12-14). Amino thiazole derivatives (16 and 17) were obtained by cyclization of compound 1 with phenyl isothiocyanate or cyclohexanone in presence of sulfur. These newly synthesized compounds were evaluated as antimicrobial and antiviral activity.

Studies on Photodegradation of Methylene Blue (MB) by Nano-sized Titanium Oxide
text

eng
THE PHOTOCATALYTIC degradation of methylene blue was …….investigated by various types of titanium dioxide particles which include three different nano particle size (28, 65 and 200 nm) as a result of calcinations temperature. Titanium oxides were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction. The degradation was monitored by measuring the change of dye concentration as a function of irradiation time under UV radiation. The anatase type in nano size, 28 nm and 65 nm has an expected high rate than rutile of titanium which its size equals 5 to 200 nm for photodegradation efficiency, while the commercial titanium grade has degradation rate less than the three calcinated nano sized types. The effects of UV radiation time and the initial concentration of MB were investigated. The results indicate that the rate of degradation increases as UV radiation time increasing. The kinetics study indicate that the photodegradation of MB by TiO2 behaves as first order reaction.

A Study on The Effect of Type of Solvent on Chitosan Efficiency for Treatment of Drinking Water Contaminations
text

IN this research, chitosan (Ch) a natural polymer, was employed in drinking raw water treatment of Nile River against Escherichia coli via simple method, it is dissolution of chitosan in three different solvents;acetic acid (AC),malonic acid (MA) and N carboxymethyl N,N diethylbenzene ammonium chloride (CMEBAC) to produce three different solutions; Ch-AC, Ch-MA and Ch-CMEBAC, respectively. These solutions were characterized by FTIR and elemental analysis. The investigations of their effect against total coliform bacteria of raw water were carried out according to method of Most Probable Number (MPN) at different contact times (30, 60 and 120 min). The results showed that the full inhibition of total coliform were achieved after 30 min as contact time by 7 gm L-1 ml of Ch-Ac , 5 gm L-1 of Ch-Ma and 0.75 gm L-1 ml of Ch-CMEBAC. Otherwise, by increasing of contact time, the volumes of inhibitors (chitosan solutions) decrease. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of those solutions were detected as 2.75, 2 and 0.2 μ/ml , respectively.
