Synthesis and Spectral Studies of Co (II), Cu (II) and Fe (III) Ions with 2(2`-Hydroxynaphthyl azo-) Benzothiazole

A NEW azo compound 2 (2`-hydroxy naphthyl azo-) benzo-thiazole (HNABT) has been synthesized. Bands of the ligand and the formed complexes of Co(II), Cu(II) and Fe(III) are assigned using FT-IR spectra. The electronic absorption spectra of the ligand in pure organic solvents of different polarity and also in buffer solution of varying pH are investigated. Acid ionization constant and stability formation constant of complexes were determined. A sensitive spectrophotometric method for the micro determination of metals using the azo compound, as a new chromogenic ligand is established. This method is successfully used for the determination of Co(II), Cu(II) and Fe(III) in the presence of foreign ions and in solutions .

Corrosion Inhibition of Stainless Steel Alloys in Phosphoric Acid Solution

THE CORROSION behavior of two stainless steel alloys in …...phosphoric acid solutions in the absence and in the presence of 3-amino-1, 2, 4-triazole (AT),4-amino-5-mercapto-1, 2, 4-triazole (AMT) and sodium orthophosphate corrosion inhibitors was studied using open circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. Open circuit potential measurements of the two stainless steel electrodes in different concentrations of H3PO4 showed that the rates of film thickening of the two electrodes are independent of the solution concentration. Potentiodynamic polarization curves showed that the increase of Na3PO4 concentration in 0.5 M H3PO4 brought changes in the pH of solutions in the range 1.7-10.7 and decreases the corrosion rate. Electrode type (II) has inhibition efficiency more than the electrode type (I). AT compound (3-amino-1,2,4-triazole) has proven to be efficient inhibitor for pitting corrosion of stainless steel in phosphoric acid solutions. The inhibition efficiency may be argued to the formation of a compact Fe-AT complex film on the electrode surface.

Synthesis and Evaluation of New Anti-microbial Additives Based on Pyrazole and Triazole Derivatives Incorporated Physically into Polyurethane Varnish for Surface Coating and into Printing Ink Paste

PYRAZOLE, triazole, pyramidine, phenylsulfone and their derivatives are some of the oldest and best known class of nitrogen and sulphur containing compounds. In the recent years there has been considerable interest in phenylsulfonyl, pyrazolo and phenylsulfonyl triazolo derivatives due to the presence of the important pharmacophore groups. In this particular research, certain compounds as 5-(methylthio)-6-(phenylsulfonyl)-3-(p-tolyldiazenyl)- pyrazolo [1,5-a] pyrimidine-2,7-diamine (compound II), 3-((4-metho-xyphenyl) diazenyl) -5-(methylthio) -6-(phenylsulfonyl) pyrazolo [1,5-a]pyrimidine-2,7-diamine (compound III) and 5-(methylthio)-6-(phenylsulfonyl) [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a] pyrimidin-7-amine (compound IV) were prepared and their structure was confirmed by spectral data and also screened for their antimicrobial activity against six different micro-organisms when physically incorporated into polyurethane varnish formula and printing ink paste. Experimental coatings were manufactured on a laboratory scale and applied by brush on glass and steel panels. Results of the biological activity indicated that polyurethane varnishes and printing ink paste containing compounds II, III and IV exhibit a very good antimicrobial effect. The physical and mechanical resistances of the polyurethane varnish formulations were also studied to evaluate any drawbacks associated with this addition. The studies revealed that the physical incorporation of compounds II, III and IV marginally enhances both physical and mechanical properties.

Influence of Support on Catalytic Activity of Nano-Ni Catalysts in P-nitrophenol Reduction to P-aminophenol

THE CATALYTIC activities of CaCO3-, TiO2-, Al2O3 - and SiO2- ….. supported Ni catalysts in reduction of p-nitrophenol to p-aminophenol were investigated. The catalysts were prepared by impregnation using a solution of appropriate concentrations of NiCl2 in order to obtain catalysts with 2.5, 5 and 10% nickel. The dried solids were treated with hydrazine hydrate to reduce nickel ions to metallic nickel, on which the reduction of p-nitrophenol takes place. The catalysts were characterized by XRD and SEM before and after conducting the reduction reaction of p-nitrophenol .The results showed that all catalysts contain crystalline nano nickel. The catalysts were active in reduction of p-nitrophenol into p-aminophenol. The activity was in the following order: Ni/ TiO2 > Ni/ CaCO3 > Ni/ SiO2> Ni/ Al2O3, i.e. the activity was decreased with increasing the acidity of the supports.

Synthesis, Characterization and Anticancer Activity of La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III) and Gd(III) Complexes of 1,1`- Bis(Z)-N- ethyldiene-5- Methylthiazol- 2-Amine Ferrocene

CONDENSATION of l,l'-diacetyl ferrocene with 2-amino-5-methylthiazole in 1 : 2 molar ratio yields a ferrocenyl Schiff base ligand 1,1`- bis(Z)-N-ethyldiene-5-methylthiazol-2-amine ferrocene (L). This ligand forms 1:1 complexes with La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III) and Gd(III) nitrate in a good yield. Characterization of the ligand and complexes were carried out using infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectra, electronic absorption, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity and elemental analysis. The cytotoxicity and in vitro anticancer evaluation of the ligand and its complexes have been assessed against four different human tumor cell lines (MCF-7, HepG2, A549 and HCT116). The results revealed that the prepared compounds exert their actions in HepG2 and MCF-7 through inhibition of the activity of both urokinase and histone deacetylase (HDAC). Pr-complex revealed promising anticancer activity compared to the activity of the commonly used anticancer drug, doxorubicin
