Utility of p-Acetamidobenzoyl Prop-2-enoic Acid in the Synthesis of New α-Amino Acids and Using Them as Building Blocks in Heterocyclic Synthesis
THE PRESENT work deals with the generation and synthesis of different unnatural amino acid derivatives via treatment of 3-(4-acetamidobenzoyl)-prop-2-enoic acid with 5-aryl-2- amino 1, 3, 4 thiadiazole, 3, 5-dimethyl pyrazole and barbituric acid to afford the product of conjugate addition acids (1) respectively. Additionally, the adduct 1 are used as key starting materials to synthesize some heterocycles include pyridazene , furanone and oxazine derivatives. The antimicrobial screening of some of the synthesized compounds was done using the agar diffusion assay

Constitutive Phenolics and Hepatoprotective Activity of Eugenia supra-axillaris Leaves
BIOLOGICAL investigation of the aqueous methanolic leaf extract ……. of Eugenia supra-axillaris (Myrtaceae) was performed to prove potent hepatoprotective activitiy. Phytochemical investigation led to the characterization of ten phenolic compounds for the first time from this plant. They include the flavonoid glycosides; myricetin 3-O-β-xylopyranosyl (1→2)-α-rhamnopyranoside, myricetin 3-O-α-rhamnopyranoside and quercetin-3-O- α-rhamnopyranoside, the flavonoid aglycones; pinocembrin, myricetin and quercetin, together with phenolics; gallic acid, ellagic acid, 5-O-monogalloylquinic acid and nilocitin. Three phenolics were isolated for the first time from the plants of the genus Eugenia, namely, 5-O-monogalloyl quinic acid, nilocitin and pinocembrin.

A Novel Triacylglycerol from A Cytotoxic Extract of A Red Sea Marine Fungus
INVESTIGATION of the CH2Cl2 extract of a taxonomically …….unidentified anamorphic fungus strain MF 014, has yielded the glycerol triester, 1,3-O-bis-Z-11-eicosenoyl 2-O-Z -9, Z -12-nonadecadienoyl glycerol. The structure of this novel metabolite was established on the basis of extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic studies as well as on mass spectrometric analysis. The extract exhibited in vitro cytotoxic activity against human amniotic epithelial cells (FL cells) in the neutral red assay.

Synthesis and Characterization of Some New Coordination Polymers of Schiff Base Derived from Furfural
COORDINATION polymers of the Schiff base N,N bis-(Furan-2-........ylmethylene)-1,4-phenylene diamine (BFMPDA) with zinc(II), cadmium(II) and cerium(III) have been prepared in dioxane medium. The optimal pH conditions for preparation the polymeric complexes were determined by potentiometry study. The stability constants of the complexes formed were calculated from the obtained potentiometric data. Polychelates polymers formed have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, infrared and electronic spectra. Glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal stabilities of the polymers have been investigated by carrying out differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. Electrical conductivity measurements of the synthesized polychelated polymers showed that they are insulators. The metal contents in all polymers are found to be consistent with 1:1 metal : ligand stoichiometry. The solubility and viscosity of the polymer complexes were also determined. The surface of the synthesized polymers was examined by scanning electron microscopy.

Synthesis of Fused Heterocyclic Compounds Derived from 2-Phenyl[1,5]benzothiazepin-4(5H)-One
2-PHENYL[1,5]benzothiazepin-4(5H)-one (1) was reacted with arylidenenitriles, a mixture of carbon disulphide or phenyliso-thiocyanate and active nitriles to give pyrano-, pyrido-, thiopyrano-, 1,2-dithiolo[3,4-e]-; 1,3-dithiolo[4,5-e] [1,5] benzothiazepines, benzothi-azepino-[6,5-c] [1,8] naphthyridine and oxathieno [1, 5] benzothiazepines (2 –11), respectively. Treatment of compound 1 with a mixture of sulphur and phenyl isothiocyanate or 2-amino-1,1,3- tricyano-2-aminopropene gave 1,3-dithieno [4,5-e]- and thieno [3,2-e]- [1,5] benzothiazepines (12, 13), respectively.

Immobilization of Cr (VI) in Bagasse Ash Blended Cement Pastes
THE OBJECTIVE of this study is to investigate the possibility of utilizing bagasse ash to improve the cement immobilization of chromium (VI). It was concluded that the blended cement which contain 15-20% bagasse ash can be used effectively forimmobilization of concentrated waste Cr (VI) solutions (≈13000 ppm Cr (VI)) after being mixed with the blended cement in water to cement ratio of about 30%. The immobilized cement paste will set at about 4hr and gain satisfactory compressive strength of about 450 kg/cm2. The immobilization efficiency ≈ 90% under this conditions.
