On The Chemoprevention of Petroleum Induced Carcinogenesis and The Role of Nanocatalysis
NANOTECHNOLOGY is a field which has been at the forefront
….. of research over the past decades and its full potential has yet to be fully realized. One subset of nanotechnology that has emerged is nanomedicine, which has been able to exploit the unique properties of nano-sized particles for therapeutics. This review aims to discuss the current state of nanomedicine in the field of early detection of cancer and the subsequent targeted treatment. Current cancer detection methods rely on the patient to contact their provider when they feel ill or rely on non-specific screening methods, which unfortunately results in cancers being detected only after they have become too expensive for effective treatment. Furthermore, current treatment paradigms of cancer include mainly whole body treatment with chemotherapy agents exposing the patient to medications which non-specifically kill rapidly dividing cells, leading to debilitating whole body side effects. Nanomedicine has the potential to increase the specific treatment of cancer cells while leaving healthy cells intact through the use of novel nanocatalysis (nanoparticles) to seek and treat cancer in the human body. Co-polymer poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanotechnology has been approved by the FDA for the use of drug delivery, diagnostics and other applications

Kinetics of TNT Degradation in The Presence of Zero Valent Iron Nanocatalyst
THE REDUCTION of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in aqueous solution using nanoscale zero-valent iron was investigated. The results showed that the first order reaction law fits the reduction of TNT. The measured apparent rate constant (Kobs) of TNT on nanoscale zero-valent iron (0.0374 h−1) was 4-fold than on conventional iron powders (0.0091 h−1) at 303 K. The apparent rate constant of TNT reduction on nanoscale zero-valent iron also can be improved by an increase in concentration of nanoscale zero-valent iron and a decrease of pH.

One Cycle in-situ Processing of Nanoparticle-loaded Superparamagnetic Cellulose Fibers
BAGASSE fiber suspensions, obtained from the Egyptian sugar cane plants are used through one cycle of an
in-situ processing to obtain superparamagnetic papers, bearing 5-13 wt% ferrite nanoparticles of iron oxide or mixed oxides of iron with cobalt and/or nickel. Oxidation of metal hydroxides, precipitated by alkali from metal chlorides and nitrates were oxidized using hydrogen peroxide. The products' properties of the magnetic paper formed were evaluated by characterization using XRD, TEM, and magnetic hysteresis measurements. Although a one-cycle process was used, the process yielded magnetic fibers containing nanoparticles of about 30-80 nm. Magnetic hysteresis-loops show that all products are super-paramagnetic with relatively high saturation values.

Synthesis and Inhibitory Activity of Schiff base Surfactants Derived from Tannic Acid Against Bacteria and Fungi
ASERIES of tannic acid Schiff base surfactants were synthesized and their structures were elucidated using microelemental analysis, FTIR and
1H-NMR data. The molecular weights were determined using viscosity measurements and gel permeation chromatography. The surface activities of the surfactants were determined by surface tension measurements. The antimicrobial activity and minimum inhibitory concentrations were evaluated by disk diffusion assay against gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria and fungi. The antimicrobial data disclosed that the tested compounds demonstrated moderate to excellent microbial inhibitions. Compounds TGB1 showed high potency against the tested strains.

Synthesis, Molecular Docking and Biological Evaluation of Some Novel Heterocyclic Derivatives
ASERIES of heterocyclic derivatives 2-15 including pyrimidinone ……and pyrimidine thione rings were synthesized by using chalcones 1a-c as starting materials. Treatment of compound 1a with hydrogen peroxide afforded the corresponding epoxide 2, which afford thioxopyrimidine derivative 3 upon the reaction with thiourea. The latter compound was treated with halo-derivatives to give the corresponding N-substituted thioxopyrimidine derivatives 4 and 5. Moreover, compounds 6-10 were prepared by the treatment of compound 1b with acetyl acetone, hydrazine hydrate, urea, thiourea or thiosemicarbazide, respectively. Also, compound 10 was condensed with p-chlorobenzaldehyde and chloroethanol to give 11 and 12, respectively. The alkylation of 9a with methyl iodide or ethylchloroacetate accessing the S-substituted pyrimidine derivatives 13 and 14, respectively was carried out. Also, compound 9a was reacted with p-methoxybenzaldehyde and bromoacetic acid to afford the corresponding thiazolopyrimidine 15. Characterization and structural elucidation of the products was realized based on chemical and spectral analyses. Furthermore, a molecular docking study was performed in order to predict the anticancer activity of these compounds against Tyrosine Kinase enzyme hoping to find any promising affinity that could be of potential anticancer activity. Also, the biological evaluation of some prepared compounds has been assessed and some of them revealed promising antioxidant activity.

Preparation of Nano Bioactive Silica from Silica Gel
BIOACTIVE silica was prepared by precipitation of the gel by …….acid from sodium silicate in the presence of ethylene glycol. The formed gel was homogeneously mixed with calcium carbonate powder. The produced solid was heated at 500oC for 3 hr and the calcined material was treated with dilute hydrochloric acid to remove the carbonate. The investigation by X-ray showed that the produced solid before treatment contains amorphous silica with crystalline calcium carbonate phase. The treatment with HCl removed the crystalline calcium carbonate leaving pure amorphous silica in nano-sized particles as confirmed by SEM. The bioactivity of the obtained silica was performed by soaking it in simulative body fluid (SBF) for two weeks followed by investigation using SEM, IR and EDX.

Synthesis, Moleculer Docking and Anticancer Screening of Some Novel Tetrahydronaphthyl Thiazolyl Pyrazoles and other Related Derivatives
CONDENSATION of 5-amino-1-[4-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-7-yl) thiazol-2-yl]-1
H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile (3) with different reagents such as triethylorthoformate, ethyl chloroformate and/or hydroxyamine hydrochloride yielded the substituted pyrazoles 4-6. Cyclocondensation of 3 with formic acid, acetic anhydride, formamide and /or acetamide afforded the pyrimidine derivatives 8-11. Reaction of 3 with carbon disulphide, substituted isothiocynate, malononitrile, aldehydes and /or chloroacetylchloride yielded the corresponding derivatives 12-16. Also, hydrolysis of 3 with conc. sulfuric acid at different conditions gave 17 and/or 18. Docking studies of the newly prepared compounds as thymidylate synthase inhibitors have been done. Some of the newly prepared compounds were evaluated as anticancer agents against three human tumor cell lines (HCT116, HePG2, MCF7).
